Headline index In preparation

A second series, weighted with CyStat's Household Budget Survey shares so it is directly comparable to the official Consumer Price Index for food and non-alcoholic beverages. Jevons elementary aggregates over unit prices within each COICOP class. Publishes monthly once the product classification is complete.

Method

  • Unit prices only. €/kg, €/L or €/piece, so a pack that shrinks at the same shelf price reads as inflation.
  • Fixed basket. Nothing enters or leaves for twelve months. Re-based each January and chain-linked.
  • Paid price is the headline. Promotions open to everyone count, as in the official CPI. Shelf prices and the promotional gap are published alongside.
  • Churn is imputed, not dropped. A delisted or out-of-stock line takes its group's movement.
  • Geometric means. Items within a class are combined with the Jevons formula, never by averaging prices.
